After Your Workout Immediately after your workout is the most important time to take glutamine. Glutamine’s positive effects are at their best immediately after your body has experienced plenty of anaerobic exercise. The goal is to keep the glycogen in your system at its normal level, allowing your body to reduce oxidative stress, improve the immune system, and maintain the integrity of ingested protein. Before You Go to Bed As you go 8-10 hours without eating, your body finds itself in a highly catabolic state. Although the glutamine will work all of its functions overnight, a high glutamine level at night will be most beneficial for your immune system. When You Wake Up Even if you supplement the night before, your glutamine levels will not be at their peak when you wake up in the morning. Just as you need to stock up on carbohydrates and proteins in the morning for energy, you need to replenish your stores of glutamine when you wake up. Replenishing your supply of glutamine in the morning will ensure that you reach a more anabolic state as early as possible. Before Your Workout The last logical time to supplement with glutamine is before your workout. This helps ensure that your body will have a normal level of glutamine during your workout when it would usually suffer from a slow depletion of glutamine.
