Meal Replacement Drinks & BarsMeal replacements provide a perfect, compact meal in a packet that is high in protein, low in fat (some have no fat) are low in carbohydrates, and contain a wide array of vitamins and minerals. They are low in sugar and cholesterol. They are very nutrient dense and can be mixed easily and conveniently.
In order to get the same benefits from whole food as some of the high quality meal replacements, you would have to put together a large meal like a chicken breast (protein), a potato for some carbs, and a salad for the vitamins six times a day. Why bother when you can just rip open a meal replacement packet and toss it into a cup with some water or skim milk.
Meal Replacements
As a bodybuilder, it’s hard to find time for optimal nutrition. If you’re working out every day, you should be eating 5 or 6 small meals every day. Not only that, but those meals should be healthy and balanced for a bodybuilder’s needs. As a bodybuilder, making sure you’re eating well can take 3 or 4 hours a day, maybe more. Unless you’re a professional bodybuilder, you probably don’t have that kind of time between work, school, and just having a regular life.
That’s why meal replacement products (MRPs) are a bodybuilder’s best friend. They offer all the nutrition you need in a fraction of the time. And they taste great, too! Making a product like
EAS Myoplex
part of your daily routine will have you looking forward to mealtime instead of dreading how much energy and preparation you’re going to have to put into it.
Some novice bodybuilders have a tendency to think that MRPs are basically the same as protein bars or other protein supplements; they’re not. Protein supplements are not designed to replace a meal. They’re simply designed to give the body more protein to work with while working out and during recovery. This is obviously important, but even a bodybuilder’s body isn’t all about the muscles. There are important elements of MRPs that are not found in protein supplements.
For instance, two servings of Beverly
International Muscle Provider per day (so approximately 1/3rd of your meal preparation for the day) contain your full daily allotment of more than two dozen vitamins and minerals. This means two things: first, you ensure that your body is getting lots of the essentials. Second, you don’t have to spend too much time obsessing over your remaining 4 meals of the day; a lot of it has already been taken care of.
Obviously, you’ll want to make sure you’re not ingesting too much fat, sodium, carbs, or other elements that should be apportioned appropriately. On the other hand, those are much easier to screen for than, say, iron, magnesium, and Vitamins B6.
MRPs generally come in one of three forms: powder, bar, or ready-to-drink. Many manufacturers make each of their products in two or three different forms, and each form usually has almost exactly the same nutrition information. That means that which form you choose to use should be based almost entirely on preference.
The primarily differences are in convenience and price. Powder form tends to be a little less expensive than the other two forms, but you do have to make sure that you take it at a time when you can mix it with either water or milk. Bar form is usually the same price or marginally more expensive, and can be a great choice if you want to have the satisfaction of chewing something (it tends to seem a little bit more like a real meal). Ready-to-drink shakes may be the most convenient, but they’re often the most expensive. Many bodybuilders like to keep two or three different forms of the same product on hand when each is most convenient or preferable.
Finally, MRPs can be adjusted to comply with different goals. For instance, a brand like Myoplex offers different MRPs for the bodybuilder trying to lose weight, gain weight, or cut down on carbs. There are so many options to choose from that it won’t be hard to find the product that is perfect for you. Making MRPs a regular part of your bodybuilding routine will make your life easier and your results more impressive in a matter of weeks!
